Do you have a boyfriend or a brother?
This story starts in the Summer of 2018; under a different team name, with a core group that is small but mighty, and has seen a lot of pieces come and go.
To paint the picture- it was Saturday night of War at the Shore Weekend, and the entire team was lighting the Osprey dance floor on fire when an idea came to one of the guys: what if we just had a tried and true boys night?
No one even speaks to girls; just enjoy being out with friends, new and old.
It was so simple and dumb that the team couldn’t help but rally around it. The idea grew more and more ridiculous as the night went on, the drinks flowed, and some of the guys strayed from our guys only concept- which left the rest of the team in the perfect position to run in to ask the girl our now infamous question, “Do you have a boyfriend or a brother?,” and if the answer was “Yes,” then the girl in question would get even more confused by the enthusiastic response of “Bring him over! We want to hang out with him!”
So began our journey of Adding More Dudes; and our new name was born.
Since that night, we have adopted Steve Addazio as our unofficial (and unaware) Minister of Culture (do yourself a favor with a quick google search if you haven’t seen his famous Vines), experienced a whirlwind of matching neon bar shirts, and become the Osprey bouncers’ worst nightmare.
Oh right, lacrosse… In addition to pretending there’s still rubber left on the tires while playing field lacrosse, the Dudes have also started playing box lacrosse together over the past 6 months; which provides the perfect opportunity to drink LaBatt’s and talk in a bad Canadian accent.
The past year has been the biggest yet for More Dudes, as the Dudes made appearances at War at the Shore, Ocean City, Chesapeake Cup, Liberty Cup, Blue Star Men’s Box, Beast of the East Box Tournament, MDLL Christmas Classic Box Tournament, Steelyard Spring Box League, Brooklyn Brawl, and the Steelyard St. Patty’s Box Tournament. Additionally, we participated in Movember and are currently participating in Yards for Yeardley. Off the field we had a team Christmas Party and are gearing up for our first More Dudes Golf Classic.
In the years since we started, the team has changed a lot. What started as a web of high school friends, and their friends, and their friends of friends; has now turned into a way to reunite and play with old teammates, and continue to add even More Dudes. It’s that spirit that has changed More Dudes from just a team name to something that each of us hope to embody. Whether you grew up playing and still play lacrosse, gave it up after high school, or never even played… as long as you’re a genuine Dude who enjoys a cold Sideline Soda and can both take and dish out some good chirps; there may not be a jersey or gear for you, but there will always be room for you to be part of More Dudes… Shoutout to Coach Heaters, the Celebration Specialist, the Hydration Consultant, and Glue Guy.
Here’s to More time spent with friends, More mediocre lacrosse, More light beer, and even More Dudes.
What’s better than this?
